Whether we're in the Berkshires, Virginia, California or Texas, the barn wedding trend is one that's going to be here for awhile. And personally, I think that's fantastic! Because getting married at a barn venue doesn't necessarily mean mason jars and burlap (although sometimes those elements are perfect). Some of the most elegant affairs I've ever seen have taken place in a barn.
Growing up in the Shenandoah Valley, I often took for granted just how gorgeous my surroundings were...even with my weekly trips to Charlottesville over the beautiful Afton Mountain for orchestra rehearsal (thanks for all the rides, Dad!). Fortunately, there were others who took notice and thought, "Hm, what a beautiful region this is for a wedding!"
So for those of you looking for someplace "different," I've compiled a list of rehearsal dinner "venues" that are sure to please! (Oh, and here's a little rehearsal dinner hint: If you're looking to entertain all of your out-of-town guests with a welcome reception, but don't really feel like paying for essentially TWO weddings, host your intimate seated dinner first, then open the rest of the evening up as a cocktail/dessert reception for guests to come-and-go as they please.)
Last year, I wrote a blog post titled the Top 10 Wedding Venues in the Berkshires. The venues I highlighted--Wheatleigh, Stonover Farm, The Mount, etc.--are the ones that our region is best known for. These are the traditional Gilded Age estates, the historic barn venues, the most-visited museums. But over the last year or two, we have had new wedding venues popping up all over the county!
