Ralph Lauren-Inspired Styled Wedding Shoot in the Berkshires
One of my very favorite things to do is play dress-up. But not dress-up like when we were kids, going through our mothers' closets and donning their long pearl necklaces. I love to take a room--or a venue, blank piece of paper, etc.--and accentuate it with beautiful pieces of furniture, accessories, flowers... I think this is why I love to design styled shoots so much. Every once in a while (actually, quite often), I'll get inspired by something--a piece of moulding, the color of the sky, a weathered doorknob--and suddenly, I'll have an idea for a photo shoot that brings a team of professionals together, showcases a stunning wedding venue in the Berkshires, and produces perfectly "pin-able" pictures!
This was the case when I first stepped foot onto the grounds of the Inn at Richmond/Berkshire Equestrian Center back in 2012. With its rolling green pastures lined with perfect white fences, its big white barn displaying a huge American flag, its majestic tree-lined driveway with the stables as a backdrop, and of course horses, horses, horses (!), I knew that someone needed to draw attention to this magical place! What a perfect Berkshires wedding venue!
And finally, last October, I was given that chance. I knew right away that this needed to be a very Ralph-Lauren-equestrian type of photo shoot, and that I wanted to include as many Berkshire Wedding Collective members as possible. I also knew almost immediately that I wanted to use my younger daughter, Ava, as the model for a flower girl--because who doesn't love a little girl with long blonde hair in a lace dress and boots frolicking in hay lofts and alongside horses?? PINSPIRATION! I had never done a shoot before with a child--let alone one of my own--but I just felt like it needed to be done!
I also wanted to include some new friends of mine who had some really cool products/talents--that would add a unique spin to the typical bridal shoot. MacKimmie Co. sells some of the most amazing blankets and throws--perfect for a Fall shoot, and Joanie Ciolfi creates the most amazing paintings--of landscapes, buildings, DRESSES--see where this is going? :)
And of course, my main goal in creating these inspiration shoots, is to bring attention to the Berkshires as a premier destination wedding location and to the various Collective members involved. People who are extremely talented wedding professionals, but who aren't always the best at self-promotion! I love for my members to show what they can do--whether it's the photography itself, or the unique custom jewelry they offer, or the vintage rentals they provide, or whatever--and then have the opportunity to get their work submitted to and published by bridal/design publications for a little bit of exposure.
So, without further ado--here are some of the images from our wedding inspiration shoot. And forgive me if I'm on Ava-overload right now...typical mom! Thanks so much to Jaclyn L. Photography for these amazing images, and be sure to check out the fun Summer Wind Wedding Films video, too!
