What can I say about Brenne and Eli?? From the moment I met them--eleven months before their wedding at Camp Lenox in Otis, MA--I fell in love with them and their family. And with every meeting and phone call in between, I grew to love them even more! I loved how involved their families were in the planning process (and that usually isn't the case when you have "too many cooks in the kitchen!"), and enjoyed seeing new documents pop up in our Google Drive, as I knew it was going to be some special writing for their benchers, ceremony programs or welcome packets!
Many of the weddings that I do in the Berkshires are Jewish weddings; however, Brenne and Eli's wedding taught me more about a traditional Jewish wedding than I ever could have imagined (in fact, I even had "Jewish Wedding 101" classes with Eli's mom, Adina)! It isn't only about having a Chuppah or a Ketubah signing (although those are certainly parts of it), but it's also about the amazing events leading up to the ceremony--the very special Tish and Bedeken. It's about gathering your friends and family for Shabbat and Davening services, about the true meaning behind the Yichud (whoa!) and the boisterous Shomrim (wait, what?!), the breaking of the (Challah) bread and the ties that bind. It's about family. And love. And true commitment.
For Brenne and Eli's wedding, we needed to incorporate two very different styles into the weekend. One of a casual, "campy" feel for the non-wedding days--reminiscent of the summer camp experiences many of their guests remember--and one of rustic glam for the wedding day. To accomplish this, we used the Lodge building only on the day of the wedding, and our lighting, draping and design teams began their installations--draping linen panels, twinkle lights and hanging crystal chandeliers--early in the week. Brenne and Eli wanted the wedding reception space to be a complete surprise to their guests, so we forbade them access to the building and even blocked out the windows for no peeking! The entire group had a real "WOW!" moment at the conclusion of the ceremony on Sunday evening!
It was an honor to work with Brenne and Eli to make their dream wedding weekend come true. Here's to many, many, MANY years of happiness together. I can't wait to see what amazing things are in store for you!
