A Fun-Filled Wedding at Tanglewood

When I was a little girl, before we moved to Virginia, my family and I were frequent visitors to the magnificent Tanglewood Music Center in Lenox, Massachusetts.  With blankets and picnic baskets in hand, we spent countless evenings on the famed Lawn, listening to Seiji Ozawa, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, John Williams and many other world-renowned guests as they joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra.  I have such fond memories of the booming cannons (used for the 1812 Overture) and the starry night skies and always welcome the chance to step foot on those hallowed grounds.

So when Julia and Bennett contacted me to ask if I could help them plan and design their Tanglewood wedding, I jumped at the chance!  There was just one little glitch...I was already booked on their date!  {bummed sigh}  However, after our initial consultation, I knew that this was a couple I really wanted to work with, so I offered to help them in the months leading up to their big day and then send in two of my team members to execute our hard work.

Right from the beginning, Julia let me know that they were a fun, relaxed bunch, and that they wanted to do things a bit differently.  Instead of having the traditional cocktail hour just before dinner, J&B wanted to have the cocktail hour before the ceremony!  Julia said she didn't care about a grand entrance or being seen for the first time during her walk down the aisle.  She wanted to mingle with her guests before the nuptials took place and then head immediately to the dinner tent following their "I Do's."  They also opted to do a more casual dinner, with NO ASSIGNED SEATS (I have to admit, this made me a bit nervous!), and food served throughout the evening.  This was a dancing crowd who didn't want to sit through a lengthy meal!

And Bennett's one request?  A soccer game on the morning of the wedding.  This sort of activity has become quite common as of late, so I knew--to an extent--what to expect.  But this groom was serious right from the start...creating custom soccer jerseys, requesting an official soccer field and referee, and drawing quite an impressive crowd, players and spectators alike!

Take a few moments to scroll through these images, taken by photographer Kevin Tavares.  I think he perfectly captured the feel of the day, and even though I wasn't able to be a part of the festivities, these photos make me feel like I was there all along!
